The Ateneo Mens Volleyball team are made their dream came true by winning the championship title as UAAP Season 77 Champions for the first time in the history of Ateneo de Manila University they get the Championship in Mens Volleyball .
And their receipt or secret is ......
A little hardwork, a little patience and it’s all worth the wait,” said the Ateneo de Manila University coach after his wards won their first-ever UAAP men’s volleyball championship Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Blue Spikers overcame National University in four sets, ending the Bulldogs’ two-year reign atop the scene.
“Honestly, this is long overdue as a coach,” Alamdro added. “I really believe that God is never late.”
But it wasn’t smooth sailing throughout for the Katipunan squad, who had to battle back from a set down to win the match.
Almadro, who ironically built the NU team from the ground up before returning to Ateneo, said it was because of the Blue Spikers’ youth.
“Nung first set takot pa sila to make mistakes eh. Lumabas pa din yung pagiging young ng team ko,” he said. “Pero nung na-motivate na sila, yun yung ng pave ng way para makalusot.”
With Ish Polvorosa orchestrating the offense and Marck Espejo rising from a slow start, Ateneo won the next three to send the crowd into a frenzy.
“Kanina nung mga unang sets si Marck naba-block siya nang naba-block pero he keeps on asking for the ball,” Almadro said then added, “So siguro na-realize ng setter ko na ready pala si Marck anytime, so na-maximize na din namin.”
Commending his playmaker, Almadro believes that Polvorosa deserved to be hailed as Finals MVP.
“I just embraced him, whispered to him na ‘ang laki ng tiwala ko sayo’,” Almadro shared. “Nakinig siya and yun yung pinaka-importante sa player yung nakikinig.”
