Aion player here. If you are going to be playing the game duo a lot (not Aion powerleveling but everything else) and like most player are choose to be a Cleric in Aion. Now we know we are going to play a Warrior type class but youI need to figure out if you want to play the conservative yet misunderstood Templar or the brute strength Gladiator? You've tanked in MMOs before so we enjoy it but the biggest concern would be if you are rifting with Cleric partner. We know that the advantage templar has over gladiator is survivability. However, the gladiator can have similar HP(aion kina) to templar, similar passive defense abilities (you can play glad w/ a shield and sword, even), but lacks active defense once in the higher levels. If your buddy is a cleric, we would go with gladiator. Gladiator puts out quite a bit more damage than templar, and at the end is nearly as good of a tank. We are a gladiator and very very happy with the decision. Temps can pull opponents away from cleric, have bodyguard to protect the cleric, and can take care of himself for a while if the cleric for some reason cant heal his parter. Also, temp can dish out quite some damage as well if using a GS and spec for damage. Granted, glad can do everything nearly as good. Hope it can help you to play your character successful.
