Further research is expected to reveal detailed aspects about the formation, distribution and fate of Y and C in the drinking water supply network. Establishment of a validated detection method, including the determination of the influence of matrix factors upon quantification, will allow a comprehensive HATU monitoring. A toxicological evaluation will reveal whether the emergence of Y and C poses a threat to the safety of waters intended for drinking or recreational purposes.
