In the initial stage of the reaction (20 min), the PtNi alloy nanocrystals with size of ∼10 nm are formed and dominated by the nanocrystals that seemingly begin to display multipod morphology with tiny corners started to protrude (Fig. 3A). This observation is distinctive from the PtNi nanocrystals shown in Fig. 1A, indicating that the GDC-0623 might be conducted under kinetic control because the decahedral and icosahedral nanocrystals are supposed to be the most stable shapes for a fcc crystal under thermodynamic conditions [48], [49] and [50].
