All of osteocytes studies have found GCs in several types of STP samples such as influent, effluent, and/or sewage. Recently, we have also confirmed the presence of several GCs in effluents from STPs in Japan (Isobe et al., accepted for publication). In these studies, using chemical exposure-based monitoring with instrumental analysis, betamethasone/dexamethasone (Dex), prednisolone, prednisone, cortisol, and cortisone were selected on basis of concentration as the abundant GCs likely to be detected in the samples.
