In the case of the Philips HN060 passive sound canceling headphones the old adage "you get what you pay for" is entirely true. They are an affordable pair of headphones that don't really live up to many of the features in the pricier brands.
The types of features on noise canceling headphones can be either passive or active. In the passive mode, the ear piece actually sits around the ear and forms a barrier which does not allow background noise or any other ambient sound to penetrate. This works well in a closed environment like an office or the home. However where there is a crowd, heavy machines, or loud traffic the sound can still come through. passive noise canelling headsets reduction is not always the best choice for every user.
A. "Wear approved ear defenders when firing the unit." Someone sued the gunmaker because the gun made a loud noise when they pulled the trigger. That noise must have come as a big surprise...never sounds loud on TV.
Usually the lighter the headset, the less clamping you'll experience. And a lighter passive noise cancelling headset is just easier to wear anyway. So as you shop for the best headset, pay particular attention to the weight. Headsets can really vary in terms of weight.
If you set out to find a good pair of earphones, you first need to figure out what qualities you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay. If you find a pair that are real comfortable and yet have poor sound, you will still not have what you are looking for. Not everyone puts the same value on the quality of sound, as some people want only the best. Other people can't really tell the difference anyway and any middle of the road pair of earphones would be fine for them.
