However, considering the share of the global impact due to SS2 for these two impact categories (17.5% for FE and 3.7% for MFRD), the impact of salt on the environmental burdens of the FU is small.
3.2. Alternative Scenario: by-product as feedstock for AD plant
Table 4 reports the results about the environmental performance of tomato purée achieved considering the AJ 76 digestion of tomato by-product. Fig. 6 highlights the contribution of the three different subsystems; the energetic valorization of by-products involves an environmental benefit for all the impact categories evaluated. This benefit is low (< 3%) for AP, FE, TE, ME and MFRD while blastocyst is higher for POF (− 3.30%), PM (− 5.38%), CC (− 6.29%) and OD (− 13.16%).
