Malaysia has under gone a surge of great horror movies since the dawn of the 21st century. Most likely as the censors stopped approving them after the Islamic boom of the 1970's. What makes them so extra-special is the fact that many of the best ones draw upon the rich local background and myths in the country. In fact, I have not yet see a Malay horror movie made before the 2000's. Everyone knows the best horror movies are according to potentially true events.
