WORCESTER - Police said they are investigating a suspicious death yesterday in a Charlton Street apartment building.
Police said that around 6 a.m. they found a 35-year-old man dead in his apartment at the Crescent building at 15 Charlton St. A medical call had come in reporting an unresponsive man, police said. Detectives and officers from the police crime scene unit worked throughout the day, police said.
Police said last night it was unclear how the man died, and said foul play has not been ruled out.
Police did not identify the man, saying they had not yet notified all his family members.
Early last night, the state medical examiner's office loaded what appeared to be a body into a van and drove away. Several detective cars were parked in front of the four-story apartment building and in the parking lot across the street. Several detectives went in and out of the building carrying several packages. A uniformed police officer also went into the apartment building.
Residents said police were in an apartment all day on the second floor of the building. A woman walking by said she used to live in the apartment police were in. She made a phone call, and then became emotional and walked away to a car with a friend.
Another resident said he wasn't sure what happened, and didn't know the man who lived there very well. He said he often saw him coming and going.
Around 7 p.m., detectives had a newer model Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle towed away on a flatbed trailer from the parking lot across the street. Soon after, most of the detectives and crime scene officers drove away.
The apartment of the suspicious death is one street away from Sycamore Street, where a man killed himself after allegedly fatally shooting his former girlfriend in front of nearby Compare Foods on Main Street.
Police said anyone with information about the man's death can send an anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD + your message or send an anonymous Web-based message at worcesterma.gov/police. Calls can also be made to the police Detective Bureau at (508) 799-8651.
