Mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s make up Thursday's Long Island forecast, the National Weather Service said.
The service's Upton office calls for another warm, gentle October day across Nassau and Suffolk counties, including light variable north winds shifting east in the afternoon.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said there's a chance of showers Friday and a thunderstorm Friday night. "Mainly light precipitation, less than a half-inch," Hoffman said.

Before the rain, Thursday night temperatures drop into the mid 50s, with increasing clouds.
Friday's daytime outlook is for cloudy skies with a slight chance of morning showers. Rain is more likely after 5 p.m. and then again after 11 p.m., the weather service said.
Hoffman said any rain is followed by pleasant conditions for the extended Columbus Day weekend.
"Saturday, Sunday and Monday are looking good for outdoor fall events," he said.
