A Blistering Response From Amazon to NY Times Story

Amazon states a New York Occasions tale from August about what it’s like to function at the on the internet retailer ‘misrepresented’ the organization. In a scathing response, Amazon states it presented its conclusions to the newspaper a number of months ago, ‘hoping they may take action to correct the record. They have not, which is why we determined to create about it ourselves.’ Dean Baquet, the Times’s executive editor, in a reaction reiterated his ‘support for our tale about Amazon’s society.’

The piece, printed in Medium, is prepared by Jay Carney, the former White Property spokesman who now serves as Amazon’s senior vice president for global corporate affairs. Baquet’s response, in the sort of a letter to Carney, was also posted on Medium.

Between the claims produced in Amazon’s response:

Bo Olson, the previous Amazon employee quoted in the Occasions tale as saying, ‘Nearly every man or woman I worked with, I noticed cry at their desk,’ remaining the organization ‘after an investigation uncovered he had attempted to defraud distributors and conceal it by falsifying business records’ an additional worker, Elizabeth Willet, who was quoted as declaring she was ‘strafed’ by means of the company’s comments device, received three pieces of opinions by means of that device, like optimistic comments Dina Vaccari, an Amazon staff quoted in the story stating she did not rest for four times because of how hard the organization needed its staff to function, now states: ‘No one particular pressured me to do this—I selected it and it sucked at the time but in no way was I requested or compelled by administration to do this.’

The response especially finds fault with the Times’ Jodi Kantor, who spent six months reporting the tale with David Streitfeld, another of the newspaper’s reporters.

‘We have been in standard communication with Ms. Kantor from February by way of the publication date in mid-August,’ Carney writes. ‘And but in some way she never found the time, or inclination, to question us about the credibility of a named source whose vivid estimate would serve as a lynchpin for the total piece.'”
