When your team is confident as a whole, you will win more.
If a new technique works well while playing football, do not use it too often. You opponent will learn your next move rendering the play ineffective if you use it often.
When you try out for the team, you need to be in shape. Start workouts by stretching and follow up with cardio and aerobic exercise. Follow these with weight lifting and a cool down routine.
Learn to use both your feet. For many people they rely on only one foot to jump start them when playing. Try exercising your non-dominant foot so that you can move faster and maneuver better.
Participate as a supportive member of a team. Football requires teamwork perhaps more than any other sport. Your team is going to enjoy wins and suffer losses together. You say "we" instead of "I". Your teammates will have more confidence in you when you are a supportive player. A confident team is a winning team.
Do shuttle runs if you need to build endurance and stamina. This will even help you with abrupt stops. Start at the goal line, and then run and tap the 10-yard line. Then go back and press that line too. Do as many of these runs as you can, chart your progress and see how you improve.
Use ladder drills to increase agility and coordination. These types of drills are important to all football fitness training. Draw out a fictional ladder using chalk. Start from the bottom, and step in and then out of every square. Do so until you are at the top. Watch online videos to make sure you are using the technique correctly, and watch how the professions players use this method to train.
If you play a receiver position, than your personal quickness and speed are critical. You should select a very defined and specific running area so you can improve your speed. This is accomplished as easily as having a pair of cones, separated by 10 yards. Keeping track of your time, sprint quickly from cone to cone. Now, try to beat your last time. Quick, powerful sprints are a vital part of being a good football player.
You should try to make sure you can kick a 50 yard field goal, if you are in a kicking position. Though kicking is not typically associated in most people's minds with weight lifting, this actually builds up the muscles you need to go the distance. The other important factor is high flexibility. Stretch after each work out session and make sure to get your leg muscles extra loose to improve your range of movement.
Keep paying attention to the field from right to left if you play quarterback. Some quarterbacks make the mistake of only scanning left to right. When you alter scan patterns, you keep the opposing team on guard and they can't blindside you on the same side time and time again.
If you play quarterback, scan the opposing defenders both right to left and left to right. Many quarterbacks just scan from left to right. Doing this back and forth scanning technique will prevent the defense from hitting you from the same side every time.
