Khon Kaen-the Gate way to Isaan

Many Thailand people have heard of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, but few venture to the northeast and head for the location know as Isaan. This can be in the northeast and comprised of Korat, Khon Kaen, Udorn Thani and others.

This is largely a rural area with many grain farms. It is also the home of numerous expatriates who've settled down with their Thai girl and have made this their new home.

I was in Korat twice during exercise Cobra Gold and only got to see this area quickly. Working 12-16 hour day didnt allow enough time for sightseeing. But, I did realize that the cost of living was a lot less-than the bigger tourist cities and the people were a heck of a lot friendlier.

I visited Khon Kaen for your very first time in 2007 to see a lady that I met online. I quickly fell in love with the girl and also with the town of Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen is just a 55 minute trip from Bangkok departing from the old airport terminal Don Muang. The airport in Khon Kaen is quite small and only has two departure gates.

Town is a pleasant mixture of old and new. We would go out for lunch or dinner and sit in small bungalows across the river or one of the rivers and eat in pure happiness. Three to four dishes of several beers, excellent food and some water and the statement could be about $10 - $15.

O-n the flip side, there is also KFC, Pizza Company and other fast-food places. European influence at its worst.

Shopping again is just a mixture of new and old. Choosing A Custom Wardrobe Doesn't Have To Be Difficult contains new information concerning the inner workings of it. You can visit the meals market or the night time market or head to the Fairy mall or the technology mall. From cheap T-shirts to current movies o-n DVD to bootleg computer software, Khon Kaen has everything.

I stayed in a small hotel called Cactus Resort. It was in town but perhaps not in the heart. It would just take us about 5 minutes to go to the mall or out to dinner. The price of the room was about $16 per night. The room was a decent size with free Internet, cable TV, hot and cold running water with a shower, and large bed and fridge. Of course, the area was air-conditioned.

The team was pleasant and helped me create my computer to gain access to the Internet using their IP. The maid even found that I was drinking more than my allotted 2 free bottles of water and improved my free water to four bottles.

The hotel didnt have a restaurant, but there was one right next-door. This was not problem for me as my girl would cook my breakfast at her apartment and carry it to me and pick me up some food for lunch. We'd then go out every night for dinner and drinks.

Khon Kaen is just a very calm and cheap place to reside. I intend to retire there and will soon be looking to get a residence on my next visit.

The next time you want a visit to Thailand, have a side trip to the north-east and knowledge all that Isaan is offering..
