Le Roy students rake leaves, grow respect

Junior high students in the Le Roy Central School District traded rithmetic lessons for rakes and books for boxes as part of a morning of community service in the village.

The Districts first Class Up the Community Day saw nearly 200 seventh- and eighth-grade students fan out to various locations in the village on Thursday where they raked voluminous piles of leaves, painted, and cleaned out police cars.

Students worked in groups of 8 to 10 alongside teachers and other staff in such locations as St. Francis Cemetery on Exchange Street, Machpelah Cemetery on North Street, the police station, the Le Roy Ambulance base on Tountas Avenue and Le Roy House on Main Street.
