Google's machine learning system TensorFlow is now open

Bloomberg notes that companies ranging from Microsoft Corporation to Facebook are seeking to influence AI development, and betting that by making it open-source they can encourage the wider community to work on new artificial intelligence technologies. While performing these operations, the "neural networks" discover patterns and relationships as they absorb all the available information.

He added Google had shared TensorFlow ahead of its release with a few people.

Tech giant Google says it will release a machine learning system called TensorFlow into the open source platform to allow researchers and developers to freely use the source code to further develop and upgrade the system.

Sundar Pichai, Google's CEO announced in a blog post this morning that it has built an entirely new machine learning system called "TensorFlow". This engine has been a major part of the many advances that Google has had in automated search as well as analysis, particularly in apps like Google Photos, and Google Search. Google hopes that this decision will allow everyone from hobbyists, engineers to academic researchers to exchange ideas much more quickly. One of the most interesting branches in artificial intelligence is the so-called "deep learning", and GPUs have proven extremely important in processing lots of little bits of data in parallel.

According to Google, TensorFlow is also useful for making sense of complex data. Additionally, it's worked to make it easier to index pictures of cats, dogs and other things on YouTube, similar to what it's done with Google Photos.

As of now, Google will release a version that runs on a single machine, but eventually it will also release a version that can run on a smartphone or across thousands of computers in data centers. It is a machine learning system that is used to improve Google's products.

Machine learning, or deep learning, involves using hardware, computer processors, that act similarly to neurons in the human brain, linked by the TensorFlow software. "But with TensorFlow we've got a good start, and we can all be in it together". Developers, however, can use Python to create applications based on the engine. Matt Cutts of Google said it was probably the biggest announcement in technology news that day - he was right.
