Huntington Bank Mortgage Review

Needless to say, Huntington Bank as one of the country's largest banks has it's fingers in all aspects of the mortgage business. They are also a very large SBA and automotive lender as well. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reports the company's 2011 total mortgage application volume at over $8.2 billion on about 58,000 applications.

This company does a lot of mortgages, but huntingtonbank to put it in perspective Bank of America in the same period did hundreds of billions…so they have a ways to go to get into the Hall of Fame in mortgage origination.

There was a little controversy back in 2007 when they merged with Sky Bank as it was there biggest rival at the time and Congressman Dennis Kucinich wanted the Fed to hold off the merger until hearings could be held to determine the impact on lower income areas. Congressman Kucinich also sent a similar letter to the OCC(Office of the Comptroller of the Currency).

Huntington Bank will need to keep their foot on the gas when it comes to more mergers and acquisitions if they want to compete with the big boys in the mortgage market.

Sometimes a company does not update their rates so you end up looking at information days or weeks old.

Online mortgage applications are also pretty standard these days for lenders. And they are getting more and more user friendly.

Huntington National Bank Complaints and Ratings

Many people look to the BBB for complaints and ratings on mortgage lenders like Huntington National Bank. But remember, banks and credit unions have complaints and a rating for the bank as a whole not just the mortgage department. The Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (nmls.com) is where you make sure your loan officer is active and registered.
