As many people, I appreciate pireps from individuals with experience with shops you employ (bad or good) and like to spread my experience for your consideration of others too. After a so-so experience within a recent avionics install, I discovered myself looking for an alternate avenue for that installing a whole new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The tariff of one am high that we actually busted out laughing on the telephone as though I were at the comedy bar. He was apparently not as amused while i. I was telling the tale of my local quote into a friend at the airport and the man recommended that we call John Stark at Stark Avionics for the quote. In doing my required research just before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps around the shop. In this, I stumbled upon a totally terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you would like to learn it). This pirep caused me serious concern about if they should call Stark for the quote.
I posted an over-all query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and i also spoke regarding his exposure to Stark i chose to give John an appointment depending on the two recommendations I caused by trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns amongst the negative pirep on MS cheap I was gun shy depending on the previous experience. As they always say, there are 2 sides to each story and John took his time and energy to explain his side in my opinion much like me certain he'll be willing to do with anybody else who wishes to phone him and need rest. Our conversation shifted from the pirep to pricing. John i discussed different equipment options, what might are perfect for my needs/wants and also the predetermined fee installed price for each option. We ultimately chose to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was beforehand that this number could possibly be slightly higher if your tray was riveted in (numerous Mooneys are). I went along to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were that come with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in a very timely manner and confirmed the flat rate price for the equipment and install in some recoverable format and now we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane ended up being be dropped off the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said he'd except time ready by Tuesday, but I opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event there are some snags as you go along.
