Much of the traffic to my article listing comes from search engines, by people trying to find information on a specific subject. Today, this user types within their keywords, clicks o-n the search field, and is given a summary of related sites. They selected one, and are taken to the author's article. They read the article about, say, snowboarding, believe 'This is interesting' and go to the author's source field by the end of the article to see what else they've to say on this subject. There, they find a link to some site advertising cellular ringers. May be the reader planning to be impressed, or thinking about this? Not so likely. I really believe one of three things will happen then:

The reader leaves the complete site in disgust.

The viewer clicks on a link to some relevant report.

The viewer clicks on the related Google AdSense (or similar contextual advertising) offer.

They do not click the author's reference link. That is a potential customer lost, very probably permanently.

Yes, put a link in to your website in the source package, but many article sites let many links, so for goodness sake put a link in that' ;s associated with the article subject too, and preferably put it in first, before you lose the client.

'But my site doesn't have such a thing regarding that subject on it'!

Then add something which does. Add a post index, and have the source package saying 'To learn more articles on this subject, just click here.' Add a web service, and have the written text say 'To see links to websites with this issue, go here.' Or simply visit Click-bank, try to find related jobs, and have a link to them, using the link saying something like 'If you want to find out more on this subject, purchase this product.' Preferably, not just a direct link to the item, but a cloaked or redirected one.

Using this method, you still get that connect to your website that you were after actually, but, moreover, you've the chance to earn money from the audience in a new way. A win-win situation. Plus, you do not appear to be somebody only submitting acquired information on any subject just for the sake of the backlink it'll give you. A much more professional look. Is not it worth taking the time to produce better use of the source package?.
