Few months ago Malawi was in a fierce debate that seem could change the political system. People expressed dissatisfaction with the current presidental democracy system and simply wanted change. Interestingly without any concrete change the debate has cooled.
Malawi democracy was once again tried and failed to show significant signs of maturity. It all started in Parliament then the media took it up but the citizens failed to be masters of their own fate.
The political leaders need to learn to respect Malawians voice. There are in positions to execute citizens interests and not theirs. The government is failing Malawians by denying them a right to choose what they want through a ballot as the British government did with people of scotland.
There is a long way to go for our democracy to mature but lets walk towards this and a good starting point was on the federation debate.
