World Of Warcraft
I played World of Warcraft for pretty much two years. During, this period of my well being I ran a small guild, but was a notable PVPer on my small server Boulderfist. I would be a Lieutenant Commander of the Alliance. Now I am sure I lost all the Horde players and Paladin haters right there. During those years we had the Honor System, not the token system portail design that exists today.
I believe that the honor system to be superior towards the token system in everyway. This system allowed players to work as hard while they could to have what they desired. But, those that did at all like me were rewarded hamsomly.
It took away the prestige of the game, it rewarded the ordinary and penalized the super elite class of pvpers that had developed through the honor days. World PVP was discouraged. The token system simply allowed everyone to have whatever they wanted if they worked hard enough.

Sure, the cons towards the honor system were that not everyone could get the rare armor, not everyone could play 15 hours per day to have enough kills and honor points to level up following the week.
