I did not expect this backpack to be so well-made and fully-featured given the price, but it is simply an excellent value. It compares very well to packs from more familiar and much more expensive brands.
Total weight is well under four pounds and it has a 60 L (3660 cubic in.) volume, plus a collar which can hold another 5 L or so if needed after resupply. It is very comfortable when loaded and would be a good choice for a long-distance hiker on a budget.
The back has split padding to take direct pressure off the spine and the shoulder straps, hipbelt, and lumbar region have generous padding, too, all covered with mesh. The hipbelt has small zippered pockets on both sides and the sternum strap has an elastic section and a pealess emergency whistle. The shoulder straps are attached to a small framesheet with with hook & loop panels to adjust the size for a custom fit. There are load lifters and compression straps, as well as straps to hold a tent or sleeping pad at the bottom rear.
The front has a vertical pocket with a water-resistant zipper, a large open pocket perfect for a rain jacket, and access to the lower compartment. There are mesh water bottle pockets on the sides. Underneath there is a small zippered pocket, which is the perfect place to stash the bonus rain cover. The cover is a bright yellow-green silnylon for safety when walking on highways or hiking during hunting season.
The lid is permanently attached and has inside and outside zippered pockets. There is a tunnel for a drinking tube. Both the top of the backpack and the top of the collar have drawstrings with toggles. Inside the main compartment is a zippered opening to the pocket for the framesheet plus a pocket with an elasticized opening to hold a water bladder. The panel between the bottom compartment and the main compartment unzips if one large compartment is preferred.
The given weight is accurate according to my luggage scale. The backpack weighs 1740 g total. The removable framesheet weighs 470 g, including the two fiberglass (not aluminum) stays. If not overloaded, the pack could easily be used without the stays, which weigh 155 g total, putting the pack weight below 3 1/2 pounds. Some of the straps could also be trimmed to save weight. The bonus pack cover weighs an additional 61 g.
Overall quality is good, both in materials and construction, with taping and reinforcement where appropriate. The reinforced nylon is water-resistant. The heavier nylon on the bottom has a silicon coating inside. The zippers, toggles, and buckles all work well and are lightweight.
