types of blood cancers:

"Leukemia, a type of cancer found in your blood and bone marrow, is caused by the rapid production of abnormal white blood cells. The high numbers of abnormal white blood cells are not able to fight infection, and they impair the ability of the bone marrow to produce red blood cells and platelets.

types of leukemia:

"acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)

"acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)

"chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)

"chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML)

"Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which removes excess fluids from your body and produces immune cells. Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that fight infection. Abnormal lymphocytes become lymphoma cells, which multiply and collect in your lymph nodes and other tissues. Over time, these cancerous cells impair your immune system.

The different categories of lymphoma:

"The appearance or histology of the cancer cells under a microscope.

"What kinds of genetic mutations they carry.

"Whether they form tight clusters (nodular) or are spread throughout a lymph node or other organ of the body (diffuse).

"What type of cell they arose from.

"What types of proteins the lymphoma cells have on their surface.

"Where they occur in the body.

"Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that specifically targets your plasma cells. Plasma cells are white blood cells that produce disease- and infection-fighting antibodies in your body. Myeloma cells prevent the normal production of antibodies, leaving your body"s immune system weakened and susceptible to infection.

types of Myeloma:

"Multiple Myeloma

"Giant cell myeloma

Causes of Blood Cancer:

"A weakened immune system - this may be a result of drugs that suppress the immune system (such as those used for organ transplants), high doses of radiation (such as in radiotherapy for another cancer), or diseases that affect the immune system (such as HIV).

"Contact with a chemical called benzene, one of the chemicals in petrol and a solvent used in the rubber and plastics industry.

"Genetic disorders like Fanconi anemia, Schwachman-Diamond syndrome and Down syndrome.

Treatment of Blood Cancer:

Blood cancer is rather a cluster of cancers developed in the blood cells and therefore the patients with leukaemia requires special treatment. The special cancer centres can only meet those special needs. The treatment of blood cancer is a complete program which the patients have to follow in order to achieve best results. These include :

1.Chemotherapy: is the first method to destroy those leukemic cells by the usage of anti cancer drugs.

2.Interferon therapy: is effective to slow down the rate of reproduction of the leukemic cells and helps the immune system to build sufficient anti- leukemia activity.

3.Radiation therapy: this therapy is effective to kill cancer cells with the process of exposure to high- energy radiations.

4.Stem Cell Transplantation: This procedure is required in order to enable treatment with high doses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

5.Surgery: The surgery is performed for the removal of an enlarged spleen or to install a venous access device to give medications and withdraw blood samples.
