“Then the Assyrian king’s chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident? Do you think that mere words can substitute for military skill and strength? Who are you counting on, that you have rebelled against me? - 2 Kings 18:19-20 (NLT)

The king of Assyria conquered parts of Judah and cunningly exacted a heavy tribute and laid siege taking control of their water supply. His threats and taunts to pressure Hezekiah’s government to give up failed. Surprised, he asked: “What are you trusting in that makes you so confident?” The Lord intervened and Assyria was defeated.

Everyone needs some confidence in life but the kind and the source of that confidence is vital because there have been times confidence in political, social, family, and financial power had woefully failed when most needed. There are equally situations confidence in personal clout couldn’t save or prevent.

Paul saw the limitations and said, “…wewho worship God in spirit {and} by the Spirit of God and exult {and} glory {and} pride ourselves in Jesus Christ, and put no confidence {or} dependence [on what we are] in the flesh {and} on outward privileges {and} physical advantages {and} external appearances—Philippians 3:3 (AMP)

We exalt Christ whom God the Father said of him that “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”The truth of the Word of God gives us confidence of eternal life –the very life and nature of God himself. InChrist we have received all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge thus assuring us of better things that come with our salvation.

And this confidence depends on God’s grace and not on our earthly wisdom because in Christ we live an ordered, firm, and solid life based on his wisdom, power, and goodness. As we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves in conformity to him, we continue to be built up in him,“becoming increasingly more confirmed {and} established in the faith to the abounding {and} overflowing in it with thanksgiving” Colossians 2:7

Our confidence is in Christ and what he did for us. You can receive this new life if you would believe in his death which resulted in the forgiveness of sin, his burial, and his resurrection unto justification and confess him as Master and Lord of your life (John 1:12, 13 and Romans 10:9, 10. In his resurrection is this new life with its confidence, peace, health, well-being, andmany more benefitsa child of God has.

If you do, pray out this prayer and also share this message with anyone you come in contact with:

“O Lord God, I confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life, and believe in my heart that you raised Him from the dead for my justification. Therefore in accordance with your Word, I receive eternal life into my spirit, declaring that I’m a child of God now. Amen.”
