The journey from there to San Juan Bautista (Guerrero, Coahuila) prolonged from March 22 to April 21, 1717, on a route barely at variance with the Spanish Camino Real (see OUTDATED SAN ANTONIO ROAD). At San Juan Bautista,qv Commander Diego Ramónqv placed St. Denis below a pleasing home arrest whereas awaiting instructions from Mexico Metropolis on what to do with an foreigner bearing items banned by Spanish mercantile restrictions.

The following year, the Locsins, teaming up with the University of San Carlos in Cebu, sponsored an excavation at Pinagbayanan in Pila, Laguna performed by Rosa P. Tenazas. Within the final 50 years or so, Archaeology as a topic has been taught (albeit intermittently) at the College of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila, San Carlos University in Cebu and Siliman University at Dumaguete. He returned to San Juan Bautista in April 1717, but with the demise of Louis XIV and the conclusion of the War of Spanish Succession, French-Spanish cooperation had ended.

After convalescence, he continued on to San Antonio, where he arrived in September 1779. He died at San Antonio on November 2, 1779, having by no means totally recovered from being unhorsed, and the proposed basic alliance with the Comanches and Norteños was never realized. Roughly from Ft.
