Across the globe, people are paying tribute to Nelson Mandela who died Thursday.

FOX News Radios Emily Wither reports from Johannesburg where mourners are remembering Mandela in the square named after him:

The young and the old are quietly filing through Mandela Square here in Johannesburg, laying flowers and admiring the large Mandela statue here under the twinkling Christmas lights. The small are gripping their parents hands, receive history lessons, while many pose for photographs, raising their fist in the air the iconic move Mandela did when he walked out of prison in 1990, after 27 years there. The police are trying to control the crowds, which are for the most part still quite small. But this is only just the beginning of a nation that will mourn for many days to come.

From leaders to everyday people, Americans are mourning Mandelas death, including President Obama

Obama: We will not likely see the likes of Nelson Mandela again.

And people paying respects at the South African embassy here in D.C.

Mourner: He was not afraid to take up arms as a young man, but he was also willing to put them down. // Very poignant moment. And I wish we could all draw lessons from his life.

The sports world is also reacting. Tiger Woods says meeting Mandela was one of the inspiring times of his life. Muhammad Ali says Nelson Mandela inspired others to reach for what appeared to be impossible.

On Wall Street Friday, the New York Stock Exchange opened with a moment of silence for Mandela.

As Nelson Mandelas death was announced, a new movie about his life was getting its British premiere here in London. Britains Prince William was in the audience.

Prince William: We were just reminded what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now.

Nelson Mandelas daughter was also at the screening. Thereve been tributes paid by everyone from world leaders to rock stars. Former U.N. chief Kofi Annan calling Mandela A visionary leader and a courageous voice for justice.
