A Quadriplegic's Personal Story on Adaptive Kayaking
Although Bill has been a quadriplegic for over 20 years, he hasn't let that stop him from trying new things such as Kayaking. He shares additional insight about his participation in Kayaking in his home residence of Oklahoma City. He was able to get involved in a free program facilitated by OKC RIVERSPORT which was made possible by Integris Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation. This program doesn't require any experience although he explains that you should feel comfortable in the water.
The kayaks are able to suit a variety of disabilities. They are equipped with a special seat with lateral supports which is particularly beneficial for those like him who have very little trunk support. Additionally, there is a volunteer on-site to help just in case there are any issues. Learn more about Bill's experience with Kayaking as a quadriplegic.
