Living with the Pain
I was diagnosed at about age 30 with ankylosing spondylitis, another form of arthritis. As it was not caught soon enough and my bloodwork showed I carried the RA gene, it turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis. My pain was excruciating. It became difficult to sleep or rest properly. When I did wake up, I found it took me quite a long time to get mobile because my joints felt stiff and unbendable.
Up until this point in my life, I was quite active. I exercised daily by running 2 miles each day, swimming 4 laps of an Olympic size pool daily as well as some weight training. When I first encountered the pain of RA, I thought it was just pain from all the exercise and the fact I had turned
