Joe Montana came to be on June 11, 1956 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania. It was apparent in the beginning that Montana was likely to be-a good basketball player due to his athletic prowess in addition to his above-average intelligence. And standing at 6 foot 2 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Montana also had the perfect body for a high of the line quarterback.
Montana played his high school basketball at Ringgold High School in the Pittsburgh Steel Valley. In high-school Montana was a stand-out player not only on-the soccer field, but also in the games of baseball and basketball. He started 2 yrs for that Ringgold basketball team, and after his senior year he was called to the Parade All American Team.
After high school Montana chose to simply take his football game to the University of Notre Dame despite receiving a few baseball scholarship offers. He did not put up large enough numbers to produce everybody recognize, though Montana put together a great career at Notre Dame. But one thing he did do all through his college career is establish himself as one of the best come from behind quarterbacks of them all.
Montana was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers with the 82nd total pick in the 1979 NFL Draft. Although he did not play a whole lot his rookie year, by the end of his second year he had become enough time starting quarterback.
