Follow Ups After Implant Surgery
After the placement of dental implant do not touch the wound. Bleeding or redness is common on the day of surgery for 24 hours. Excessive bleeding can be controlled by biting on a gauze pad placed directly on the bleeding wound for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues please call for further instructions. If swelling persists and it is normal, to reduce swelling place ice bag, or a cloth filled with ice to the cheek in the area of surgery. Make sure to take prescribed antibiotic as directed by dentist to avoid infection. Oral hygiene is essential for good healing. The day after surgery, following the oral rinse prescribed by a dentist should be used twice daily, after breakfast and before bed. Be sure to rinse for at least 30 seconds then spit it out. A healthy diet is taken to avoid much pain and infection. Diet is followed by fluids, drink as much as possible. Avoid hot food and liquids, soft food and liquids is better to have on the day of surgery. Brushing your teeth and the healing abutments is no problem. Gently brush the surgical area.
Regular dental check-up is needed after implantation by your dentist to ensure the surrounding gums and bone. The dental renewals involved in your implants will also need periodic inspection by your dentist to confirm that they are safe and functioning properly.
