BlackBerry is back in the game with its latest device, Priv, that is as good as iPhone 6s
BlackBerry had almost faded in the smartphone industry until this year, when its Android-based BlackBerry Priv surfaced. Priv was one of the most-awaited devices this year. Tech enthusiasts had a lot of expectations from this device and it is believed that it met those to an extent.
In the past couple of years, Apple iPhone significantly dented BlackBerry’s share in the industry. Before Priv’s launch this year, Apple introduced two new smartphones: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Here we compare the recent phones by both giants to see which overshadowed the other.
Similar to Priv, users had been desperately waiting for the launch of iPhone 6s, as the phone was rumored to sport many new features. The company did add some notable features in the device, but overall, it was just a revamped version of iPhone 6.
Each new iteration of iPhone hosts “under-the-hood” upgrades, such as a faster chipset and a better camera. IPhone 6s also offers all these upgrades and some new features too such as 3D Touch, Proactive menu, and Siri. However, it seems that these features were not enough to entice users.
The rival devices such as BlackBerry’s Priv were able to capture the market share. A possible reason can be BlackBerry incorporating a completely new operating system. To make this operating system more attractive, the company added a privacy feature and a keyboard. The privacy feature makes the notorious Android safer than Apple’s iOS, which is believed to be strictly regulated by the company.
Backing these features are Priv’s specifications that any high-end device offer these days. Priv has a 5.4-inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. Also, the screen is curved from both sides and offers Samsung Galaxy S6 "Edge-esque" functionality. iPhone 6s, on the other hand, offers a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 750x1334 pixels.
BlackBerry’s device is packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 1.8GHz chipset with 3GB of RAM. iPhone 6s is powered with the new A9 processor. Though we cannot really compare both the chipsets, but Snapdragon delivers a comparable performance.
As opposed to iPhone 6s screen is new 3D Touch, the notable feature in Priv is the Qwerty keyboard as an added feature. The keyboard is hidden below the screen and can be used whenever needed. The comparison of the features shows that Priv is no less than Apple’s latest iPhone device. In fact, in some aspects it is better than iPhone 6s.
