Khon Kaen-the Gateway to Isaan abc

Most Thailand tourists have been aware of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, but few venture towards the northeast and head for the area know as Isaan. That is in the north-east and made up of Korat, Khon Kaen, Udorn Thani and others.

That is largely a rural area with several grain plants. It is also the home of several retirees who've settled down with their Thai woman and have made this their new home.

I was in Korat twice throughout exercise Cobra Gold and just got to see this city quickly. Working 12 16 hour day didnt allow much time for sightseeing. But, I did observe that the cost of living was a lot less-than the people and greater tourist towns were a heck of a lot friendlier.

I visited Khon Kaen for your first-time in 2007 to go to a female that I met online. I straight away fell in love with the girl and also with the-city of Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen is a 5-5 minute trip from Bangkok departing from the old airport terminal Don Muang. The airport in Khon Kaen only has two starting gates and is quite little.

The city is a pleasant mix of old and new. We'd venture out for lunch or dinner and sit in little bungalows along the sea or one of the rivers and eat in pure bliss. Three or four plates of a couple of beers, excellent food and some water and the statement could be about $10 - $15.

O-n the flip-side, there's also KFC, Pizza Company and other fast-food places. American influence at its worst.

Shopping again is really a mix of old and new. You can travel to the meals market or the night market or head to the Fairy mall or the electronics mall. From low priced T-shirts to current films on DVD to bootleg application, Khon Kaen has it all.

I stayed at a small hotel called Cactus Resort. It was in the town but perhaps not in the heart. We learned about http://www.kusi.com/story/33094097/sometimes-saving-money-just-isnt-worth-it-and-rich-people-know-it by browsing Yahoo. It'd take us about five minutes to attend the mall or out to dinner. The price tag on the area was about $16 per night. The area was a good size with free Internet, cable TELEVISION, warm and cold running water with a shower, and large bed and ice box. Naturally, the area was air-conditioned.

The staff was nice and helped me setup my computer to get into the World Wide Web using their IP address. The maid also saw that I was drinking more than my allotted 2 free bottles of water and improved my free water to four bottles.

The hotel didnt have a restaurant, but there is one right next door. This is not problem for me as my girl would make my break fast at her apartment and bring it to me and pick me up some food for lunch. We would then head out every evening for supper and drinks.

Khon Kaen is a very comfortable and cheap place to call home. I want to retire there and is likely to be looking to get a house on my next visit.

Next time you want a visit to Thailand, take a side trip to the north-east and experience all that Isaan is offering..
