The Aveva AfroSoul Show presents powerful songs in English and Amharic, dealing with society, love, and freedom. Combining traditional Ethiopian instruments, the group, founded by the charismatic singer Aveva Dese, creates a fascinating connection between cultures in Israel and around the world. Discovered on the Israeli version of "The Voice", Aveva has toured with Idan Raichel and appeared at festivals across Israel and Europe. Sherlock Holmes and the Sapphire Night is a hybrid work of traditional theater and contemporary circus. In this original story, featuring a predominantly female cast including the residents of 221B. Sherlock and Watson unravel the mystery of six, missing, young women and their connection with an enigmatic, star-gazing cult. Sherlock Holmes and the Sapphire Night explores themes of feminism and femininity, outsiders, and the responsibility of power through the physicality of circus performance and features Spanish web, Chinese pole, aerial silks, lyra, contortion, hand balancing, diabolo, acrobatics, and more. Sherlock Holmes and the Sapphire Night will play at the Somerville Armory on March 25th and 26th. Sherlock Holmes and the Sapphire Night debuted in New Haven, Connecticut at the Educational Center for the Arts on February 10th and 11th, 2017 with three sold out shows.
